NestBio and Gallery East Partner to Present Second Major Exhibit

Cambridge, MA – Gallery East and Nest.Bio are set to premier Abstract Maneuvers, an exhibition featuring the paintings of Paola Savarino.

The Exhibit runs through Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Nest.Bio Labs (located at 325 Vassar Street, Cambridge). Two Gallery talks will run concurrent with the exhibition and are open to the public.

Abstract Maneuvers is curated by Duane Lucia and features 18 abstract and mixed media paintings by Paola Savarino. The pieces portray highly-textured, colorful and poetic images that dance across the canvas and energize the viewers’ senses.

“Paola’s artwork combines vibrant color, movement and skillful application with a sense of adventure to experiment with a traditional medium. In this way it fits with the cutting edge environment of a biotech lab, where scientists often venture into the unknown.” said exhibit curator Duane Lucia

Savarino was born in Cleveland, Ohio and educated at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Early in her career, she illustrated Charles Bukowski’s poem, The Genius of the Crowd. She moved to Boston in 1970 and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston MA) where she would later go on to teach painting. Savarino became known for her large abstract canvases and, more recently, her encaustic wax Buddha paintings.

She received numerous awards over the course of her career, including a Museum of Fine Arts Fifth Year Grant and an endowment from the WBZ-TV Fund for the Arts to create one of the first large arts projects—a billboard painting—in Boston’s Fort Point Community. Her paintings are part of the permanent collection at The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University. Paola Savarino passed away on March 8, 2017, but her work continues to inspire.

Nest.Bio Labs is a shared co-working community designed specifically to hatch revolutionary biotechnology ventures. With over 13,000 square feet of fully permitted laboratory and office space—including turnkey laboratory services, state-of-the-art tissue culture and microscopy suites, extensive core equipment and instrumentation, and a carefully selected group of tenants and partners—Nest.Bio Labs is a complete life sciences incubation ecosystem. This new exhibit will bring together cutting edge work from the worlds of science and art.
