American artist Anne Smith is a painter and illustrator currently living in London. She holds two degrees in Ceramics, a BFA from Boston University in 1980 and a MFA from Alfred University in New York in 1990. From 1980 until 1993 she maintained a ceramics studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts and produced richly painted porcelain vessels, decorated with varied patterns and colors.

Her work has been exhibited broadly and is in numerous public and private collections including the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D. C., Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She has also taught extensively and has been a visiting artist at several universities and residencies throughout America and Europe.

Since 1993 the focus of her work shifted away from ceramics and towards painting and printmaking. After moving to London in 1997 she began illustrating commissioned work for a variety of clients in design, publishing and editorial.

She has written an illuminating and entertaining essay about her work for Frames of Reference.
